But xLights is free, has a much larger active user community, far more YouTube tutorials and Facebook groups and a richer effects engine. If you are comfortable in S6, you will be comfortable in xLights within a couple of evenings - and from there your support resources expand dramatically. If you want to stay with LOR S6 (or S5), no problem - our controllers work fine in LOR and we have setup instructions for both applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I keep using my LOR Pixie and CMB controllers alongside HolidayCoro hardware?

- Yes. Most LOR controllers use a proprietary protocol but they can be integrated into a modern xLights or S5/S6 display alongside HolidayCoro E1.31 controllers. See our LOR integration guide for the details.

Will my existing LOR sequences work?

- xLights can import LOR sequences. Your existing sequencing investment carries forward - you do not start from scratch. If you prefer to stay in LOR S5/S6, that works too:

Is xLights hard to learn coming from LOR S5/S6?

- No. The two programs share the same fundamental sequencing concepts - effects, layers, models, timing. The xLights interface is different but most LOR S5/S6 users are productive in xLights within a few evenings. The xLights YouTube channel and the xLights Facebook community have hundreds of free tutorial videos.

What about LOR CCR / CCB / pixel strings I already own?

- LOR CCR and CCB use the proprietary LOR protocol over CAT5. They cannot directly connect to E1.31 controllers, but they can keep running on your existing LOR controllers in parallel with new HolidayCoro pixel runs. For new pixel runs, we recommend WS2811 or WS2815 smart pixels which are the industry standard.
